GreyRock Civil: Counter Disinformation
Ethical Engagement, Evidence-Based Content and a Strategy to Win.
This issue of The GreyRock Strategy marks a transition from experimental to operational. This issue is an overview of how and why GreyRock’s mission is evolving. Tomorrow I will send a special supplement issue with a stunning example of AI censorship. Please keep your feedback coming. It so far repeatedly features the question, “What can we do?” GreyRock’s mission is to provide the answers.
Get Educated, Get Ready
There are 430 days left until the 2024 Presidential Election. U.S. voters will pay more attention to this cycle for longer than any other. We can leverage this to educate more citizens on how to participate safely and effectively in a new political communications environment. A reality where forces are aligned to make it one of the hardest, most complex, and possibly the most chaotic election cycle in modern history.
We see and feel the impact of weaponized disinformation. Make no mistake it’s designed to hurt us, our families, and our way of life. We have passed the age of analog broadcast attack ads as the most toxic political tactic at the speed of digital. The fractionalization of traditional media into the omnipresence of digital communications, informed by AI and weaponization tactics, has opened new “threat vectors” for everyone, once only relevant to nation states.
Digital makes it all personal. It brings it all much deeper into our homes than a television. It bends reality on our smartphones and creates new pressure points with social media. As American citizens, we are individually powerful and collaboratively unstoppable. We must now learn practical defensive tactics as well as leverage offensive capabilities to ethically and intelligently counter- another key part of GreyRock’s mission from its origins in the grey rock method.
The platform my dad used to fight and win WWII was the United States Marine Corps. While still analog, his unit VMF(n) 542, used cutting edge radar tech as a night fighter squadron that decimated the enemy night and day in the Pacific theater. You are on my platform of choice to fight and win WWIII: GreyRock.Digital. If that sounds far-fetched to you it shouldn’t. Read 4D Warfare: A Doctrine for a New Generation of Politics by Jack Posobiec, a former naval intelligence officer and popular conservative commentator and reporter.
4D Warfare lays out the basics of how military intelligence references modern communications and media. (And it helps explain why every jackass with a reddit account thinks they are running a “psyop”.)
Government Origins of Censorship
GreyRock will explore Mike Benz’s work at the Foundation for Freedom Online. Benz headed Cyber at the State Department. He is also a speechwriter and tech lawyer. FFO’s work presents the smoking gun for the rigging of the 2020 and 2022 elections, as well as defining the greatest active threat to our American republic: digital censorship.
The Twitter and Facebook Files have provided direct corroborating evidence on the censorship and disinformation around key content for issues from the Biden Laptop through election integrity and pandemic response. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was highlighting these efforts on a Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) website until recently when they scrubbed the site of domestic censorship references.1
Political consultants and candidates, as well as the Federal Election Commission and state election authorities should be investigating how government driven censorship with big tech and legacy media corporate collusion impacted and will impact opposition political campaigns. Was the Hatch Act violated? Did corporate in-kind tech contributions need to be reported? All activity benefitting or opposing any candidate, especially federal, needs to be quantified to measure compliance with the law.
In 2022, the Red Wave turned into a Red Ripple as it seemed someone turned the volume down on Republican campaigns and the volume up for Democrats. I watched one Republican candidate’s website get more traffic from Bing and DuckDuckGo than Google. I’ve never seen that ever in 20+ years of monitoring website analytics in any industry. I spent weeks trying to figure out what happened. At what point do platform actions against one candidate or party turn into a campaign contribution for their opponent?
The Old Principles
The U.S. military and intelligence community (IC) has been developing its own digital technology arsenal for decades. It’s critical to note that U.S. intelligence agencies are not legally allowed to operate against U.S. citizens as it states in the 1947 charter of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was to be the only domestic intelligence agency, who still needed probable cause of a crime and a warrant to surveil. Much has changed.
“Just six weeks after the September 11 attacks, a panicked Congress passed the ‘USA/Patriot Act,’ an overnight revision of the nation’s surveillance laws that vastly expanded the government’s authority to spy on its own citizens, while simultaneously reducing checks and balances on those powers like judicial oversight, public accountability, and the ability to challenge government searches in court.”2 -ACLU.
The USA/Patriot Act established a new executive branch Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a second domestic intelligence agency. If you are thinking this didn’t end well for our civil liberties, you are correct.
The New Fusion of Government, Big Tech and Corporate Media Must Be Stopped
In future issues we will discuss the impact of DHS’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the DHS’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis (IA) with domestic intelligence “fusion centers” throughout the U.S. The threat from these national security tools and resources is how easily they have been unconstitutionally aimed at domestic politics- first censoring election integrity content in the run up to 2020 and then 66 narratives related to the pandemic. From my research thus far, these DHS programs are what seemingly rendered my personal Facebook account I spent years building, worthlessly throttled- evidence to be posted in future issues.
GreyRock will also cover the FBI purchasing 5,000 licenses for $27 mil for Babel X, an analytics tool for gathering open-source intelligence from multiple social media platforms. The monitoring platform is led by Jeffrey Chapman, a former Treasury Department official, who was a White House aide and intelligence officer at the Department of Defense3. (GreyRock.Digital offers a similar service you can access.) It is terrifying to think of the issues caused by the use of social media monitoring for law enforcement purposes.
End Goal of Critical Theory: Mutual Destruction
What many left of center Democrats don’t get, is that our mutual enemies, of the United States and our principles, don’t care if Democrat policies “win” debates or become law. Abortion access, trans rights, and critical race theory (CRT) are radicalized tactics aimed at increasing anxiety and division. Critical theory’s goal as we began to discuss in early issues is about destroying the west and having detrimental effects on both sides, including the institutions and principles being fought for. That’s how you know it’s not a lobbying effort, it’s a war.
The border collapse has sent millions of illegal immigrants teeming into our cities, now overflowing into suburbs. They exacerbate an urban homeless problem from a lack of affordable housing, drug addiction, and fentanyl overdoses with record inflation and crime. It’s “intentional negligence” causing crisis level chaos especially in major blue cities like Portland, New York, and Atlanta.
Black Genocide
In other regions anchored by Democrat machines such as Kansas City, MO and St. Louis, MO, combined statistics drag the entire, mostly rural state down.
“Missouri had the highest Black homicide victimization rate in the nation for the seventh year in a row, according to a new study from Violence Policy Center… 73 percent were killed by people they knew… 86 percent were male with an average age for those killed of 31.”4
A 2022 SLU/YouGov Poll showed that Biden received 69.5%5 approval from likely Black voters in the STL and KCMO regions. That approval number is historically in the 90-95% range. The trend appears long term as increasing numbers of Black voters find reasons to not support the Democratic Party. The question remains, even with Trump’s progress winning Black voters, will the Republican Party embrace them so they stay?
The irregular war on our Constitutional rights in the United States is well underway. The political prosecution of the current administration’s leading opposition candidate, former President Donald Trump has reached four indictments and 91 felony charges over the last 4 months. After the Russia Hoax and two failed impeachment attempts, many Americans just aren’t buying the Biden Administration’s prosecutorial narrative. Trump’s Real Clear Politics Polling Average6 have shown he retains a commanding lead in the crowded Republican Presidential Primary and continues to run about even with a so far unimpeached and unindicted President Joe Biden. It seems folks realize it’s not just a Trump hate issue but see it impacting RFK, Jr. and populist and anti-establishment political movements in general- even abroad. It’s death to the opposition, no matter who it is.
On the Republican side of the spectrum, we are not activists. But we must work collaboratively -right now- to stop the assault on our constitutional rights and our elections. If we lose the 2024 election, we will all become the political prisoners of the Woke Establishment (see J6) and their global influencers.
For critics who say Trump can’t win the general election, I argue he is the only Republican with any chance to win. I predict we will see unprecedented events. I even believe we could see a Trump/Kennedy’24 ticket which upends both political parties. My prediction is based on one of the most critical lessons we can learn from Trump’s meteoric rise and maintained dominance in political communications: Own the data, own the audience.
Look for the supplemental AI censorship issue in inboxes tomorrow.
Enjoy Labor Day Weekend 2023 and just imagine where you will be this time next year!
